St. John Christian PreSchool

St. John Christian PreSchool has been serving the families of Iowa County, Iowa for over thirty years.  It is a part of the educational ministries of St. John Lutheran Church.  As a Christian PreSchool we strive to help our children to grow in the knowledge of the Lord.  As a Christian PreSchool we strive to help them grow in knowledge so that they are prepared to start kindergarten.  At St. John Christian PreSchool our focus is to help our children grow in faith toward God, and have the readiness skills required by Iowa Valley Schools for them to enter kindergarten.

Teachers

We have two teachers on staff.  Dayle Jensen is the lead teacher and has taught at St. John Christian PreSchool since 1994.  Our Assistant Teacher is Connie Eastridge, she has taught at St. John Christian PreSchool since 2004.  They are both residents of Marengo.

Tuition and Tuition Assistance

St. John Christian PreSchool is completely self-supporting.  In order to do this we raise money through fundraisers and by charging tuition.  The tuition pays for the teachers’ salaries and for supplies used throughout the year.  Tuition for the four-year-old class is $90 a month and tuition for the three-year-old class is $65 a month.

We also offer up to 50% assistance on tuition payments.  This is calculated through the reduced/free lunch guidelines used at the public school.  Further assistance is available through the church upon request.

Philosophy of Education

“Train a child up in the way he

should go, and when he is old he will not

 depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6

We believe that God has given all children a marvelous potential for a creative and successful life.  The child, during PreSchool years, is growing rapidly in all aspects of life.  By the time children enter Kindergarten, they have already formed many patterns and attitudes, which will shape their personalities and affect their ability to grow and develop in an ever-changing world.  St. John Christian PreSchool has developed the following as their credo:

We believe effective guidance and teaching at the PreSchool level must involve a total approach to the total child.  Our approach to the child is one of love as we give guidance in the dimensions of intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth.

We believe the child should be exposed to a broad range of experiences through active participation in the learning process.

We believe God’s world becomes an exciting discovery of the Creator’s resources through activities involving the five senses.

We believe a child should make a gradual adjustment from home to school and learn developmentally appropriate social skills.

We believe that each child has unique needs and skills that can be developed through individual attention and guidance.

Goals and Objectives

A primary goal for the Christian PreSchool is that in response to Jesus’ great love and through the power of the Holy Spirit, each child will praise and glorify Him as Lord.  The children will come to know Jesus as their very special friend who will never leave them nor forsake them as they are guided to an understanding of themselves and their work.  (Spiritual)

With this primary goal, the PreSchool has the following specific objectives:

-  To help the child live confidently as a beautiful creation of God by encouraging him/her to develop a positive self-awareness.

   (Emotional)

-  To provide appropriate experiences to promote exploration, creativity, communication, and concept development.

   (Intellectual)

-  To develop gross and fine motor coordination, sensory perception, and good health and safety habits.  (Physical)

            -  To involve the child in a sharing and caring environment in which relationships with others are strengthened through

interaction  and through practice of self-control.  (Social)

As a Christian PreSchool, a second goal is to expose children to the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Each day, time is devoted to lessons and applications about Christian values.  Opportunities are provide to enable children to apply what they’ve learned not only throughout the school day, but into their lives as well.
